About The Position

Provide technical assistance in the administration and supervision of design and construction for Facilities Capital Improvement Projects. Assist with preparation and review of design/construction contracts, plans, specifications, technical reports, invoices and pay estimates, supplemental agreements or appropriations, change orders, request for information and request for council action. Attend and participate with design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections. Assist with coordination and management of design consultants and construction contractors. Investigate and respond to inquiries by other City of Houston departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the general public.

Requirements

  • Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing.
  • Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board.
  • Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
  • No experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in design, construction and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, decision oriented, problem-solving attitude and computer skills.
  • Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas.
  • Must obtain a Professional Engineer license in the State of Texas within seven (7) years from their hire date as a Graduate Engineer or Engineer- in-Training within the City of Houston.
