About The Position

The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer role is an entry-level position within our Engineering & Development Services group for a qualified engineering professional interested in working on projects in one or more of the many sectors that Black & Veatch supports like power generation, renewables, water treatment, oil and gas, cyber and physical security. Functions in an engineer capacity. Under close supervision, performs routine aspects of engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to prescribed techniques and procedures to complete project assignments. Black & Veatch’s EDGE Program is a multi-year rotational experience designed to accelerate early-career growth. Participants rotate through 3–4 roles across different business areas — including one field assignment — to gain a full view of the project lifecycle. It’s a launchpad for future leaders looking to explore career paths, gain hands-on experience, and learn directly from senior mentors. With quarterly development sessions focused on leadership and innovation, you’ll build a strong foundation for long-term success. Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
  • All applicants must have work authorization and will not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Must have less than 2 years of professional engineering or construction experience (internships do not count toward years of experience)

  • Basic knowledge of construction and constructability practices and principles

Responsibilities

  • As an entry level I&C Engineer this role would function in an engineer capacity, under close supervision, applying department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.
  • The position would contribute to the preparation of engineering deliverables such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), reports, engineering specifications and technical studies and evaluations.
  • The position will require routine research and analysis to develop recommendations for instrumentation and equipment selection.
  • The position would understand and adhere to scope, schedule, and budget as well as the quality requirements under the Black & Veatch quality program.
  • As an entry level I&C engineer the position must also focus on the needs of our internal clients (Project Team and Leadership) while gaining a better understanding of the external client’s needs and drivers.
  • The role directly coordinates with the project team by sharing information and design decisions.
