About The Position

The Graduate Assistant will support the Office of Career and Life Design. Selection made by committee and hiring supervisor based on review of on-line applications and results of personal interviews. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing security background check. Work schedule will be determined by discussion with supervisor. This position will end May 15, 2026. The person that accepts this position will need to be available during the working office hours of the Office of Career and Life Design. The Graduate Career Education Consultant works with the Assistant Director for Career Education and the Office of Career and Life Design to build and strengthen content, resources, and programming for career education in academia, industry, nonprofit, and government for graduate students and postdocs.

Requirements

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Suite.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong research skills – finding quality career education resources and translating program feedback into ideas for new career education programming.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and organize information in a way that can be communicated with alumni, industry experts, university staff, and students/postdocs.
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to review documents and presentations and provide suggestions for corrections and improvement.
  • Ability to attend monthly team meetings, support in-person workshops and events, and communicate regularly with team members.
  • Master’s or PhD students enrolled in at least 9 credit hours Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Must be in good academic standing with advisor approval.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

  • Skills in event planning, coordination, and logistics.
  • Interest in learning more about career development, professional development, and life design.
  • Experience with outreach to various campus partners and stakeholders, including students, departments, alumni, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead career education initiatives for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across campus.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of career education workshops led by the Office of Career and Life Design.
  • Co-design curriculum, co-teach, and propose new programs if desired.
  • Research careers and industries pursued by advanced degrees.
  • Contact alumni and industry experts to guide the development and coordination of educational content for workshops and online resources.
  • Create and update content for online career resources for graduate students and postdocs.
  • Develop career/industry guides, networking and negotiation guides, example job documents, and other relevant resources.
