About The Position

Summary: Reporting to the Director of Student-Athlete Support, the Graduate Assistant supports the academic success of a designated caseload of student-athletes through one-on-one and small group academic support sessions within the Study Table program. The role involves monitoring academic progress, maintaining detailed session documentation, and reinforcing effective study skills, time management, and learning strategies to support student learning. In collaboration with SASP Academic Counselors, the Graduate Assistant supports the implementation of individualized academic plans and meets weekly with the Director of Student-Athlete Support. The position is also responsible for developing semester-based session schedules and assisting with administrative functions related to the Study Table scheduling system. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant may collaborate with the Academic Counselor/Learning Specialist on academic workshops designed to enhance student learning, refer student-athletes to appropriate campus resources, and work closely with SASP staff to support ongoing initiatives and program needs.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor's degree and currently be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program.
  • Knowledge of and prior work experience in academic support or education.
  • Teaching or academic tutoring experience in a one-on-one or group setting.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Desire to serve as mentor to enhance academic, personal, and social development of college students.
  • Leadership skills, including ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and with small and large groups.
  • Dedication to building relationships with staff and student leaders to foster community within the program.
  • Experience with Canvas and web-based scheduling systems like Teamworks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of individualized academic plans developed by Student-Athlete Support Program (SASP) staff through one-on-one and small group academic support sessions with a designated caseload.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress during each session.
  • Maintain detailed session notes in Teamworks, documenting student progress and communicating updates to SASP staff as appropriate.
  • Assist student-athletes in developing effective study skills and academic habits, including time management, study strategies, critical reading, note-taking, and test-taking.
  • Recommend and assist student-athletes in accessing and utilizing campus resources (PASS Tutoring, Writing Center, Quantitative Lab, Library, faculty office hours, etc.).
  • Meet weekly with the Director of Student-Athlete Support.
  • Support the development of academic workshops in collaboration with the Academic Counselor/Learning Specialist.
  • Maintain regular communication with SASP staff regarding student-athlete progress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
