About The Position
The Graduate Assistant (GA) in the Department of Health Science supports faculty and staff in instructional, administrative, and operational functions across all Allied Health Science programs. This position provides valuable experience in higher education teaching support, student management, and departmental coordination. Duties should be performed in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner to assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree completed
- Admission to a graduate program at SWOSU
- Background or current study in Health Science, Allied Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field
- Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50 and be enrolled in at least 3 graduate credit hours each fall and spring semester
- Graduate Assistant responsibilities should exceed those of undergraduate student employees, including support for teaching, grading, and departmental administration
Responsibilities
- Assist faculty with grading assignments, exams, and laboratory work following established rubrics and evaluation criteria
- Support classroom, laboratory, and online instruction by preparing teaching materials, setting up demonstrations, and assisting during class or lab sessions
- Help monitor and guide students during lab exercises or skill practice sessions to ensure safety, accuracy, and compliance with department policies
- Manage and track inventory of departmental and laboratory supplies, assist with ordering and restocking, and maintain organized storage areas
- Provide administrative assistance to faculty, including maintaining student records, tracking attendance, and compiling academic data
- Assist with scheduling, organizing departmental events, and communicating updates to students and faculty
- Support faculty projects, research initiatives, or program assessments by collecting data or organizing documentation as needed
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and functional learning environment in classrooms and laboratories
- Participate in departmental meetings or training sessions as appropriate
- Other duties as assigned
