About The Position

Graduate Assistant for the School of Music ( Website ) College of Arts and Humanities Position Overview: The School of Music seeks students as Graduate Assistants. Appointments are contingent upon adequate funding. Choral Manager Jazz Manager Band (Wind Orchestra) Manager Marching Band (2 GA’s) Opera Workshop (Spring 2027 Only) Music Librarian/;// (Orchestra, Band Choral) The department reserves the right to choose the most qualified candidate for each position and to assign Graduate Assistants to the courses or duties that are appropriate for the department program and curriculum in any given semester. Due to staff and curriculum changes, appointments may vary, and no guarantee of employment from semester to semester can be made. Anticipated Appointment Dates : This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified. Fall 2026: August 19, 2026 – December 22, 2026; Spring 2027: January 15, 2027 – May 26, 2027 Hours/Units per week : Students can work up to 20-hours per week; 1-unit is equivalent to 2.66 hrs per week (40hrs x 1-unit/15-unit) No more than 6 units, (or not to exceed 7.50 total WTU’s in one semester, which equates to 20-hours per week) Job Duties may include the following, but will be dependent upon the specific area to which the GA will be assigned, as well as upon the specific needs of the faculty supervisor. Provide professional non-teaching assistance to faculty members Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to their advanced study May involve supervising students in a classroom, workshop, or laboratory (final responsibility is vested in a member of the faculty); Provide training students in the use of equipment or other resources; Assist faculty with research and preparation of course materials Participate in evaluation of students' work; Tutoring students

Requirements

  • Minimum GPA 3.0; Applicants with a 3.5 or higher are preferred
  • International students must have a TOEFL score of 600 or better
  • Must enroll in at least 6 units (three of which must be graduate units) for the semester or in two courses applicable to program of study
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic background
  • For those who have previously held a TA position at Fresno State, peer and student evaluations will be reviewed and considered as part of the selection process
  • Students must be currently admitted to the MA program with a strong academic record
  • Curriculum Vita , or résumé
  • Current unofficial transcripts from your undergraduate and graduate education
  • References : You will be asked to provide names and contact information for three professional references
