About The Position

The Graduate Assistant for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging will cultivate mentoring relationships with students, plan multicultural-oriented events, and collaborate with various multicultural student groups and campus partners. The GA will have the opportunity to expand their understanding of how to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into their work across various degree programs. This position would best fit students in the Higher Education or Organizational Leadership degree programs as they will have the opportunity to utilize student development theories and apply structured processes in the various tasks assigned. For instance, the GA will take a secondary role in facilitating DEI -related training workshops to better support our diverse student populations and advance cultural humility within our campus community.

Requirements

  • Accepted into a graduate program at North Central College.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to of diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging practices.
  • Detail-oriented and adept at managing tasks to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Intermediate skills using Canva or other graphic design platforms

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Coordinator(s) of Student Engagement & Belonging with various Orientation and Welcome Week-related initiatives.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, and operations of Multicultural Peer Educators, including, but not limited to: advising the MPEs on various tasks, providing them with leadership opportunities by encouraging collaborations, creativity, and agency in planning their assigned events, and partnering with them for identity-oriented programs.
  • Lead various identity-oriented programs, in collaboration with the Coordinator(s), Multicultural Peer Educators, campus partners i.e. Student Disability Services, and multicultural-oriented student organizations, including, but not limited to: Pride Week, Latin American Heritage Month, Black History Month, Disability Awareness Week, etc.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of annual Sankofa Experience spring break trip, including, but not limited to: assisting in the creation of promotional material, preparing and presenting at pre-trip presentation meetings connecting trip theme, attending Sankofa committee meetings, etc.
  • Oversee space management of the Multicultural Student Center ( WAC 206) including, but not limited to: ordering and refilling coffee station, organizing the bookshelf and checkout system, taking down outdated flyers, etc.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Director for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
