About The Position

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is actively seeking candidates for a Graduate Assistant for Conference and Event Services position. The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Event Services personnel in the day-to-day operations. This includes overseeing student workers, assisting with night and weekend event setups, and supporting the department with various administrative tasks. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of the department's events and activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Ability to work evenings/nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight schedules in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in training, supervising, and evaluating students.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in event setup or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and take down events, portable chairs, staging, tables, pipe and drape, flooring, and other equipment for the successful execution of events.
  • Supervise and train student workers to ensure a high standard of service is provided to clients.
  • Operate equipment such as pallet jacks and scrubbing machines.
  • Provide debris removal and other general labor and janitorial duties as needed.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair event equipment.
  • Transport equipment to and from off-site storage as necessary.
  • Assist students, clients, and university visitors as needed.
  • Attend and participate in planning, training, and staff meetings.
  • Assist with various department and organization projects and special assignments as needed.
  • Report to work when scheduled, on time, in proper and clean uniform. Personal appearance and grooming must conform to the Conference and Event Services dress code.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Graduate Assistant must be applied to and accepted at the University of Pikeville in a master’s program.
  • Expected to work 20 hours per week each semester.
  • Attend bi-weekly department meetings.
  • Co-direct the event services work-study students.
  • If unable to attend a scheduled event or needing time off, must notify direct supervisor.
