About The Position

The Ithaca College Wellness Clinic is a membership-based fitness center located in the Center for Health Sciences. Its mission is to provide quality health and fitness services to the Ithaca College community—including faculty, staff, retirees, graduate students, and spouse/partners—while enhancing the practical experiences of Exercise Science students in Human Science and Human Performance through guided clinical training. As part of this mission, the Graduate Assistant plays a key role in supporting the operations and programming of the Wellness Clinic. This position requires advanced knowledge in exercise science and wellness practices, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work independently on projects and initiatives. The Graduate Assistant serves as a liaison between professional staff and student employees, taking a leadership role in team coordination, communication, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and current or previous Graduate Assistantship in Exercise Science.
  • Must be enrolled in the Exercise Science Master’s program (Human Performance or Mental Performance track).
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment, maintain confidentiality, and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Previous work experience and/or training relevant to the operations of The Wellness Clinic including experience in at least one of the following areas: exercise science, fitness programming, administrative tasks, scheduling, team leadership, marketing/advertising, or professional communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, use professional judgment, maintain confidentiality, and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including team coordination or mentoring roles.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing day-to-day operations of the Wellness Clinic, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a key liaison between professional staff and student employees by facilitating clear communication, promoting alignment with clinic goals, and supporting smooth operations.
  • Work alongside full-time staff on long-term projects, research initiatives, and operational improvements.
  • Complete assigned projects independently or collaboratively, contributing to process improvement and strategic initiatives.
  • Take a leadership role with student employees by providing guidance, answering questions, promoting a positive workplace culture, and supporting team development.
  • Lead training for new student staff—such as group exercise instructors, fitness specialists, or front desk personnel—depending on your area of expertise; deliver presentations on processes and best practices.
  • Utilize fitness assessment tools, exercise programming software, and/or other technical systems with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Lead small group sessions, workshops, or presentations related to exercise science, wellness, and/or mental performance.
  • May also include facilitating group exercise classes or offering personal training services to members as appropriate.
