THIS IS NOT A TELEWORK POSITION. CANDIDATE WILL BE REQUIRED TO WORK IN THE OFFICE. Incumbent of position is a member of DFS’ Disaster Response Team and, in that capacity, may be required on short notice to perform duties and necessary attendant travel in support of disaster relief efforts. Independently manages the daily operations of the accreditation process for the Division. This is a highly responsible, professional position that coordinates, oversees, and plans the Division’s adherence to the standards set forth by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA).

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its’ equivalent is required.
  • Completion of Accreditation Manager Training and Assessor Training
  • Experience working directly for in a Law Enforcement Agency
  • Experience developing policies and procedures
  • VALID Driver’s License from the Florida Department of Safety and Motor Vehicles by time of employment.
  • Knowledge of CFA standard and accreditation process.
  • Knowledge of Florida Statutes, law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of evidence processes including intake, preservation, and disposition requirements.
  • Knowledge of various office equipment; including computer, copier, fax machine, multi-line telephone, etc.
  • Ability to use proper spelling, punctuation, grammar, arithmetic, and business English.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical terminology and information specifically related to police work.
  • Ability to understand and interpret rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under minimum supervision.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow and give verbal and written instruction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to understand “chain of custody” requirements.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Skill in PowerDMS software programs and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Skill in proof-reading documents and making appropriate corrections.
  • Skill in word processing, typing, and filing.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manages the daily operations of the accreditation process for the Division.
  • Develop and monitor policies and procedures and provide recommendations to the Division Director and/or Assistant Directors/Chiefs.
  • Ensures the CFA CORE Competencies of the Commission for Law Enforcement Accreditation, Inc. is followed within our Division.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures for the Division as they relate to law enforcement, state law, and CFA standards.
  • Responsible for reviewing and revising current polices to ensure compliance with CFA standards, state law, and best practices.
  • Keeps informed about changes in CFA standards and current laws.
  • Interprets policies and procedures and provides recommendations to the Division Director and/or Assistant Directors/Chiefs.
  • Disseminate new CFA Core CFA Standard and new laws changes to Division staff.
  • Performs a variety of planning, coordinating and managing the maintenance and adherence to the Division’s accreditation through CFA.
  • Enforces work deadlines as they apply to accreditation requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining all files and data entry for compliance with the accreditation process.
  • Ensures all annual and/or time sensitive reviews, reports, audits, and inventories are completed as required by CFA.
  • Prepares and submits annual agency reports to CFA.
  • Collaborate with other accredited statewide law enforcement agencies to share best practices in their organizations.
  • Assesses other law enforcement agencies within the State of Florida to determine if they meet the requirements and standards for Accreditation.
  • Represents the Division at CFA conferences and stays informed about changes in CFA standards and current laws.
  • Coordinates with and advises the training section on accreditation standards and implementing required training to Division personnel.
  • Trains new employees on the accreditation process and the expectations of employees.
  • Responsible for the supervision and oversite of the Division's Evidence Coordinator.
  • Directs the work of the Evidence Coordinator to ensure the best use of time and resources.
  • Provides supervision to ensure that policy, procedure and accreditation standards are being met.
  • Meets with the Evidence Coordinator on a regular basis to ensure established criteria are met and discuss any potential issues.
  • Performs related duties as required.
