About The Position

Carbon180 is seeking a Government Affairs Advisor to support the Government Affairs team in advancing the organization’s mission to scale carbon removal solutions. This individual will assist with executing our congressional and administrative outreach strategies and projects in coordination with the policy team and other teams across the organization, such as communications and science and innovation. You will be responsible for tracking legislation and congressional hearings, organizing department databases and documents, and coordinating and attending congressional and partner events. The selected candidate must live within the DC Metro area. This role will report to the Director of Government Affairs.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in federal, non-governmental organizations, and/or public policy-related experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with issue advocacy related to energy, climate, and the environment, perks for interest in agriculture and forestry.
  • Understanding of the legislative process, including appropriations, authorizations, and other legislative vehicles such as reconciliation, NDAA, Farm Bill, and more.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication, adaptability, and collaboration.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and able to complete tasks under tight deadlines, with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and comparable programs.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice (DEIBJ), with a growing track record of applying these principles in policy engagement and contributing to an inclusive team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including congressional offices and partner organizations.
  • Monitor legislative policies, hearings, and news related to the carbon removal sector, specifically related to agriculture and forestry issue areas.
  • Support the Director of Government Affairs and policy teams with various strategic planning tasks, including coordination of team projects and development.
  • Manage and update online databases, including our CRMs, to properly map interactions, log congressional meetings, and team project progress.
  • Attend virtual and in-person events and meetings, as appropriate, to represent Carbon180.
  • Provide support to Carbon180’s Government Affairs team.
