About The Position

Cleveland Metroparks is seeking a Golf Course Superintendent to lead the overall management of Washington Golf Course, a 9-hole facility within the Park District. This role oversees all turfgrass operations as well as clubhouse facilities. The Superintendent ensures championship-level playing conditions, manages budgets, scheduling, and maintenance planning, and supports profitability while delivering an exceptional guest experience.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Turfgrass Science, Turfgrass Management, Horticulture Technology, or Agronomy.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in turfgrass or golf course management, including supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license
  • Ohio Pesticide License
  • Strong leadership and management skills with proven business acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and organizational ability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Staff Supervision & Leadership
  • Interview, hire, train, and coach employees.
  • Direct daily work assignments, adjust schedules, and monitor productivity.
  • Turfgrass & Grounds Management
  • Apply agronomic best practices to maintain turfgrass quality.
  • Oversee mowing, rolling, irrigation, aeration, fertilization, and pesticide application.
  • Request and evaluate laboratory reports for turf health.
  • Manage maintenance staff and specialized equipment.
  • Clubhouse & Facility Operations
  • Maintain clubhouse facilities, maintenance buildings, and outbuildings.
  • Coordinate with the Golf Clubhouse Manager/Golf Pro to ensure proper staffing and smooth operations.
  • Oversee renovation and capital improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with vendors and other departments for maintenance and construction projects.
  • Budgeting & Financial Oversight
  • Develop and monitor budgets to achieve profitability goals.
  • Track expenses, revenues, payroll, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Implement sustainable turfgrass management practices.
  • Monitor fuel, pesticide, and fertilizer usage.
  • Oversee stormwater management, recycling, and waste disposal programs.
