Overview Directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course grounds; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. Take superintendent's responsibilities in his/her absence.

Requirements

  • As Associate's Degree in Turfgrass Management or a Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy is required.
  • Must have working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course; seeding and maintenance practices of golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of equipment.
  • Ability to prepare clean and concise reports.
  • Maintain effective employee and public relations.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Requires current North Carolina pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days.
  • Outdoor work in all types of weather

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish a plus.
  • Cool season turf experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of golf course grounds.
  • Schedules work and supervises associates and the use of the equipment.
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment. Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Assists in personnel management; associate safety and discipline.
  • Assesses daily work schedules and modifies based on current needs.
  • Assists with record keeping for supplies, daily logs, application records, weather records and staff time records.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of entire course in superintendent's absence.
  • Communicate course conditions with superintendent, golf staff, hotel staff and guests as appropriate.
  • Assist with snow removal.
