About The Position

As a primary contact for customers, the GM/HBC Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. This role operates within the variety department of a grocery store, primarily handling non-grocery items. The GM/HBC Manager is responsible for the department’s performance in customer service, sales growth, profit improvement, and cost containment. Key duties include training, supervising, scheduling, and assigning tasks to GM/HBC Clerks. The manager ensures the implementation of merchandising programs according to division guidelines, updates signs and prices, conducts daily floor stock inventory, and manages variety orders from creation to stocking. The position requires maintaining appropriate inventory levels, daily monitoring of display areas for stock needs, and organizing and cleaning shelves and stock areas. Daily product rotation and removal of expired items are also essential.

Requirements

  • Ability to follow company customer service procedures.
  • Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
  • Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to work independently when necessary.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise GM/HBC workers to ensure optimum staffing patterns for the department.
  • Speak with customers to resolve problems with sales, dissatisfaction with service or product or other problems related with the operation of the GM/HBC area.
  • Maintain cleanliness of department and storage area.
  • Replace stock in displays and on shelves as needed.
  • Makes sure all expired items are removed from the shelves daily.
  • Perform daily inventory and order necessary supplies to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Write and input order into store computer.
  • Monitor inter-office mail and company web page daily for updated information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
