About the role: The Global Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will serve as our foremost clinical leader—guiding the clinical vision, integrity, and innovation that underpin our solutions. This is a rare opportunity to influence how clinical expertise, data, and AI come together to improve patient outcomes at scale. You will operate at the intersection of medicine, technology, and strategy. You will ensure that everything we build and deliver is clinically sound, trusted, and impactful—while shaping how clinical insight drives decisions across product development, AI innovation, and customer engagement. You will also be a visible external voice for Elsevier Clinical Solutions, initiating and partnering with leading health systems, academic institutions, and industry organizations, and help define the future of responsible clinical AI.

Requirements

  • MD/DO (or international equivalent), board-certified, with a strong foundation in clinical practice.
  • Experience in academic medicine and a passion for advancing evidence-based care.
  • Senior leadership experience in healthcare technology, clinical products, or health systems.
  • A track record of influencing complex organizations and driving strategic outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage clinicians, executives, and technical teams alike.

Nice To Haves

  • Global experience across healthcare markets, preferred.
  • Experience with clinical AI, data-driven products, or governance frameworks at scale.
  • Established thought leadership in clinical innovation or digital health.

Responsibilities

  • Be the Voice of Clinical Trust Represent Elsevier as a senior clinical authority in high-impact customer engagements, partnerships, global forums and digital marketing.
  • Build enduring relationships with healthcare leaders, academic institutions, and professional societies.
  • Serve as a thought leader in clinical AI, evidence-based practice, and digital health transformation.
  • Ensure that products are optimized to deliver utmost clinical value to users by evangelizing clinician needs.
  • Define Clinical Value at Scale Establish what “great” looks like for clinical value across our solutions—from decision support to Competency Management Define a holistic content strategy to evolve current products from providing reference information to providing advanced clinical decision support Assess content data strategy and utilization to inform overarching roadmaps Ensure our products deliver measurable, real-world impact for clinicians and patients. Create consistent standards for evidence, transparency, and trust across the portfolio.
  • Lead Clinical Governance and Decision-Making Own how critical clinical decisions are made, escalated, and resolved across the business. Act as the ultimate arbiter to ensure clinical efficacy and quality aligns with technical or commercial priorities. Ensure we operate with the highest standards of safety, validation, and professionalism.
  • Champion Responsible AI in Healthcare Define expectations for how AI should behave in clinical contexts—transparent, explainable, and accountable. Partner with product and data science teams to ensure innovation is grounded in clinical best practice and overall efficacy. Help shape industry standards for responsible, evidence-based AI.
  • Drive a Seamless Clinical Experience Ensure a consistent and trusted clinical voice across the entire clinician journey Align our portfolio to deliver a cohesive experience that strengthens our position as a trusted partner in care delivery.
