About The Position

This position will manage the Benchmarking facility at the Product Development Benchmarking Center (PDBC) in Allen Park , MI in the Roush 9 campus. This includes planning of what is to be benchmarked at a vehicle and commodity level, acquisition of those properties, documentation of the teardown event and identifying design gap opportunities. This position is the global lead for all internal benchmarking facilities and also is the lead interface to external benchmarking companies (A2Mac1, Caresoft, Munro, etc.). In addition to the tearing down events, reviews of competitive vehicles statically is also conducted. Both sets of reviews include collaboration with the Program teams, Functional teams, Marketing, Finance, and the Global Total Cost (GTC) teams (Cost Estimating, Global Vendor Tooling, Lifecycle, Data and Analytics, etc.). The communication of ideas includes leading workshops, Cost Reduction Ideas (CRID) entry into the CRID database, progressing the implementation of those ideas (either in the Ongoing Product Development space or the Forward model space) through Program and Functional GEMBA's, feeding the respective design gap funnels. This information will be the primary source of data supporting the corporate business needs identified by the PD TVM and Lifecycle targets. This position will also champion the adoption of cutting edge technologies, including AI and advanced analytical tools to drive operational efficiencies and waste reduction within benchmarking processes. The position will utilize various Key Process Indicators (KPI's), to ensure Timeliness, Quality of Event and meeting the budgetary needs. Responsible for full vehicle and commodity level teardown analysis which includes identification of design and content cost opportunities (at the system, component and subcomponent levels), communication of those findings to program and functional teams for implementation, electronically storing all findings, establishing global benchmark processes and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required
  • Ability to make decisions and trade-offs
  • Ability to build strong effective relationships with cross-functional teams (Program, Studio, Purchasing, Finance, Engineering, Manufacturing and Suppliers)
  • Able to manage multiple issues on multiple commodities effectively and efficiently
  • Outstanding communication skills (open, clear and inclusive) including senior management presentations
  • Exceptional organizational and delegation skills with a proven ability to manage multiple objectives simultaneously and ensure timely follow-through
  • Outstanding leadership skills with demonstrated ability to deliver results

  • Availability to travel globally as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Masters in Engineering or MBA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in a cross-functional product development, vehicle integration or cost engineering role
  • Strong fundamentals and knowledge of Design and Design Cost Drivers
  • Proficiency in analytical tools (e.g., Excel, Qlik, Benchmarking databases A2Mac1, Caresoft etc).
  • Experience with leading diverse, global teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead Benchmarking Events and Workshops (filling the design gap funnel):
  • Plan teardowns in accordance with corporate cost objectives, and program and functional input
  • Procure vehicles and parts to support benchmarking activities in a timely manner within budget
  • Ensure teardown processes are done consistently globally and communicated to our customers in a clear, timely, and effective manner
  • Conduct deep-dive analysis into design cost gaps to the competition
  • Ensure all trend and cost reduction ideas are captured in our data management tools with required supporting documents.
  • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of world-class benchmarking facilities ensuring optimal environments for workshops, part analysis, and vehicle displays, while upholding safety standards.
  • Efficiency Frameworks and Performance Tracking:
  • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous refinement of comprehensive frameworks for measuring and improving benchmarked efficiency delivery
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish robust methodologies for tracking, analyzing, and reporting efficiency metrics using existing data sources.
  • Champion process improvements and the development/enhancement of tools and dashboards to improve transparency of study results and opportunities
  • Engage in Continuous Improvement
  • Utilize Key Process Indicators (KPIs) to continuously assess what is working and what may need to be improved also using key stakeholder feedback
  • Champion the adoption of cutting edge technologies including AI and other advanced analytical tools to drive operational efficiencies and waste reduction
  • Analyze and optimize Budget Spend, Benchmarking Timing, Process Mapping, and External Partner Return on Investment to improve procurement efficiency, driving asset reuse, and optimizing the total cost of doing benchmarking studies
  • Partner with Internal and External benchmarking partners to improve study scope, data gathering, and communication of results.
  • Stay updated on developments and innovations of competitive designs within the industry
