Today, Block’s Global Advertising organization is building the future of commerce media - combining the power of data, payments, and technology to help merchants acquire and retain high-value customers. Through an ecosystem of advertising solutions spanning Cash App, Afterpay, and Square, we aim to make performance-driven media accessible to businesses of all sizes. The Role The Ad Tech Partnerships & Strategy Lead will play a pivotal role in advancing Block’s advertising ecosystem. This individual will identify, negotiate, and operationalize strategic partnerships across the advertising landscape - from data and measurement providers to global ad platforms - to create new revenue opportunities and drive measurable outcomes for our merchants. This role sits at the intersection of commerce, media, and technology, combining strategic foresight, deal execution, and operational excellence to deliver growth for Block and our partners. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional leaders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, and Legal, while serving as a subject matter expert on global advertising trends and innovation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in digital media, advertising technology, or commerce media, with a proven record of exceeding revenue goals in partnership, strategy, or commercial leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in structuring and operationalizing partnerships for media or technology companies - from deal negotiation to launch execution.
  • Deep knowledge of the advertising ecosystem, including data, attribution, measurement, and programmatic technologies.
  • Experience launching and scaling media or commerce networks across retail, e-commerce, or financial services sectors.
  • Strong ability to build and communicate business cases that balance strategic alignment and financial outcomes.
  • Proven experience partnering with senior leaders on prioritization, resource allocation, and KPI alignment.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and analytical skills, with comfort navigating complexity and ambiguity in fast-paced environments.
  • A forward-thinking, entrepreneurial mindset with the curiosity and drive to shape the future of commerce media at Block.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute partnership strategy to expand Block’s global advertising ecosystem, identifying high-impact opportunities with ad platforms, data providers, and measurement partners.
  • Lead commercial negotiations and deal strategy and structuring, ensuring partnerships drive mutual value for merchants, partners, and Block.
  • Build business cases and financial models to evaluate strategic fit, revenue potential, and customer impact.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Operations to operationalize commercial partnerships and ensure seamless integration into Block’s advertising stack.
  • Enable go-to-market success by partnering with Sales and Marketing to develop education, enablement, and advocacy for Block’s ad solutions.
  • Establish measurement frameworks to quantify partnership impact on revenue growth, merchant adoption, and customer engagement.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, serving as Block’s subject matter expert on emerging advertising technologies, commerce media, and market expansion opportunities.
  • Champion innovation, identifying new ways to enhance advertiser and merchant value through data, automation, and cross-channel synergies.
