Observe and participate in GIS activities associated with data collection, georeferencing, digitization, asset management, and map creation. The focus will primarily be on GIS software, GPS technology, and data assurance. Gain experience working in a professional setting and develop an understanding of GIS technology and its applications in public service. ILLUSTRATIVE JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES An eligible applicant may be called upon to participate in any or all the following activities: (These examples do not include all tasks an applicant may participate in.) GIS - Assist with the development, management, and maintenance of GIS data. This potentially consists of entering/updating attributes, digitization, data entry, georeferencing, basic cartography, the creation of meta data, and other duties as assigned. GPS - Utilize GPS equipment to acquire coordinates on city assets as directed. Create, develop, maintain scrips utilized for feature creation, data collection. Create maps or other cartographic products for use by city staff. Data collection and general research as directed. Attend relevant staff meetings.
