Mott MacDonald is seeking a couple of temporary GIS Technicians to support an upcoming water infrastructure project in our Charleston, WV office. This role involves data management, mapping, and spatial analysis to ensure accurate and efficient project delivery.

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency with GPS devices and mobile data collection apps
  • Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and mapping principles
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Physical Requirements: Comfortable working outdoors in varied weather and ability to walk on uneven terrain and lift up to ~50 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Collect GPS data in the field for assets, utilities, or environmental features
  • Use handheld GPS devices or mobile apps (e.g., ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123) for point, line, and polygon data
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity, including position averaging and syncing data daily
  • Attach photos/videos and complete smart forms for inspections or surveys
  • Work offline when necessary, with proper syncing protocols
  • Adhere to safety standards and company policies during field operations
