About The Position

RETTEW is seeking a GIS Intern at the junior or senior college level to join our Geographic Information Systems team through our ASPIRE Internship Program. This internship is designed for students who are ready to apply their academic GIS knowledge to real-world consulting projects and gain exposure to professional standards, workflows, and client deliverables. RETTEW is a 100 percent employee-owned engineering consulting firm focused on empowering our people and delivering innovative solutions. Our multidisciplinary teams provide expertise in transportation, land development, environmental and geotechnology, facilities, and energy. As a GIS Intern, you will work closely with RETTEW’s GIS professionals to support spatial analysis, mapping, and data management efforts across multiple practices. This role is ideal for juniors and seniors who want hands-on experience in a consulting environment and are interested in pursuing a GIS-related career after graduation. This position is part of RETTEW’s ASPIRE Internship Program , which emphasizes meaningful project work, mentorship, and professional development.

Requirements

  • Junior or senior standing in a bachelor’s program in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, Planning, Engineering, or a related field
  • Completion of intermediate-level GIS coursework
  • Working knowledge of Esri software, such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with spatial analysis, geoprocessing, or database management
  • Exposure to Python, ModelBuilder, or scripting within a GIS environment
  • Familiarity with data from engineering, environmental, or infrastructure projects
  • Interest in pursuing a full-time GIS or geospatial role after graduation

Responsibilities

  • Support GIS analysis, mapping, and data visualization for active client projects
  • Assist with editing, validating, and managing geospatial datasets
  • Create maps, figures, and graphics used in technical reports and presentations
  • Configure mobile and web apps using ArcGIS Online
  • Apply GIS tools and workflows learned in coursework to real project needs
  • Collaborate with GIS staff, engineers, environmental scientists, and planners
  • Participate in ASPIRE program activities, including mentoring sessions, learning workshops, and team engagement events
