About The Position

Lehi City Water Department is currently seeking applicants for a paid GIS internship. This position performs a variety of professional and technical duties related to maintaining and building the GIS. Works under the general supervision of the GIS Coordinator. This is a seasonal/internship position of approximately 40 hours a week, with a minimum time commitment of 30 hours a week.

Requirements

  • Education and Experience: Has completed at least three (3) years of college coursework, with a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours directly related to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS); basic knowledge of computer software, hardware; familiarity with GPS; basic knowledge of ArcGIS Pro.
  • Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time. Work may periodically require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Use Trimble R580 and ArcGIS Field Maps to collect GPS data of new and existing water utilities (sewer, storm drain, culinary and pressurized irrigation).
  • Use ArcGIS Pro to edit and create features.
  • Assist in collecting storm drain invert data pulling manholes and using Leica Disto.
  • Assist in aerial surveys by collecting Ground Control Points and/or piloting Phantom 4 RTK.
  • Provide support for field workers using ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Assist the GIS Coordinator to prepare, revise, and provide, as necessary, a variety of maps and digital data required by Public Works Department Staff.
  • Operate light vehicles such as pickups.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
