About The Position

The position will assist the GIS Manager with a variety of cross-departmental duties related to the City's Geographic Information System (GIS) during the 2026 summer semester. Key job duties include map creation to fulfill requests, data entry, map updates, and work towards long-term GIS goals. Other assignments may include, but not limited to, web map creation, geoprocessing & model building, field survey and data acquisition utilizing GPS equipment and/or tablets & analysis in support of project design & GIS mapping functions. The GIS Intern will use Esri software / ArcGIS Platform and be introduced to workflows and data structures as well as more in-depth understanding of GIS technology in local government. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the latest GIS software and equipment.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate level student currently enrolled in Geography, Engineering, Computer Science or related degree OR any level of student working towards a GIS Certificate.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.
  • Applicant should be well organized and detail-oriented.
  • Positive, responsible, safety oriented and interpersonal approach with people.
  • Knowledge of computers, spreadsheets and database programs desired.

Nice To Haves

  • The preferred candidate will have at least one course in GIS, Data Science, Cartography, GPS, Remote Sensing, Urban Planning, Engineering and/or other education and/or experience.
