About The Position

The City of Aurora seeks a Senior GIS Analyst to join our Public Works Department and uphold our CORE4 values of integrity, customer service, respect, and professionalism. In this role, you will oversee the systems of record for transportation infrastructure and analyze departmental needs to implement innovative spatial solutions. Key responsibilities include designing ArcGIS applications and dashboards, and leading teams of technical specialists and vendors on complex projects. We are looking for a candidate with at least three years of professional experience with ESRI and two years of project management or supervisory leadership. Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, Python, and mobile applications like Survey123 is essential for creating high-quality information products. You will also mentor staff and provide technical assistance to ensure the accuracy and reliability of our GIS data. The GIS Analyst Senior is responsible for overseeing and assisting in the creation and maintenance of systems of record to track Public Works assets, to include, but not limited to transportation infrastructure. This role is charged with regularly analyzing the needs of the department and suggesting solutions to solve inefficiencies, problems, or needs of the user base or internal Tech Services team. The role is also responsible for creating maps and GIS based solutions, developing improved workflows, and supporting other GIS users across the Department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, cartography, drafting or related field.
  • At least 3 years of professional level GIS experience with ESRI products.
  • At least 2 years of Project Management experience
  • At least 2 years of lead/supervisor experience
  • Experience with programming, network systems, web services, and enterprise asset management systems.
  • Colorado driver's license with a good driving history.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in GIS, cartography, drafting or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in the engineering field.
  • Knowledge of related software (AutoCAD, AMANDA, Adobe Acrobat, NexGen, FME).
  • Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, cartographic design, and experience reading/interpreting engineering design drawings.
  • Demonstrable competence with: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey 123, Python 3.x, Jupyter Notebooks, Microsoft Suite, and GPS technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, cartographic design, public utilities, and experience reading/interpreting Engineering design drawings.
  • Design, modify, and test GIS models and automation scripts.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Ability to independently learn and troubleshoot new technical skills, products, and workflows quickly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, and citizens, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and compile technical information and reports including making presentations, developing standard operating procedures, and designing user guides.
  • GIS Certification or GISP preferred

Responsibilities

  • Leading teams of technical specialists, vendors, or interns in successful projects or task execution.
  • Consulting with departmental users to identify, prioritize, and implement new data, map, or application requirements.
  • Ability to discover emerging problems and research, test, and implement appropriate real-world solutions.
  • Designing ESRI ArcGIS Online/Portal applications such as web maps, Experience Builder applications, dashboards, story maps and other applications to meet the needs of various department divisions.
  • Developing and managing quality control procedures and system integrations.
  • Performing spatial analysis and geoprocessing to create information products from the GIS and related software and subsystems.
  • Managing projects performed internally and through outside contractors.
  • Manipulating GIS data to create high quality information products (map layouts, maps, views, reports, and web applications).
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting problems experienced with the use of GIS and related software.
  • Providing training and technical assistance in the use of GIS data, software, and mobile applications to department staff.
  • Keeping current on the latest GIS trends in technology and procedures and making recommendations for implementation in Aurora.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
