About The Position

The Gifted and Talented Teacher to aide in facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific needs of G/T students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.

Requirements

  • Exceptional knowledge of the needs of students.
  • Knowledge of reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules and speaking effectively with elementary-aged students and/or employees in a school environment.
  • Knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of effective and innovative instructional and student evaluation techniques.
  • Strong skills in classroom management, collaboration, and differentiated instruction.
  • Strong communication skills with students, staff, administration, and the public.
  • Understanding a child’s behavior and dynamics.
  • Skilled in problem solving and patience.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to fulfill the dexterity and physical requirements of the work and effectively attend to students.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Application of percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations is required.
  • South Carolina certification in Gifted and Talented or Endorsement in Gifted and Talented
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Prior to beginning employment, negative tb test results must be provided

  • Familiar with educational technology tools and language-learning platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting the Gifted and Talented teacher's expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Assesses Gifted and Talented student progress, expectations, goals, etc. for the purpose of determining student acquisition of knowledge and of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum which addresses the needs of Gifted and Talented students.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of Gifted and Talented student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective Gifted and Talented school program and addressing the needs of individual Gifted and Talented students.
  • Direct instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student aids for the purpose of providing an effective school environment for Gifted and Talented students which addresses their needs.
  • Instruct Gifted and Talented students for the purpose of improving their success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
  • Monitors Gifted and Talented student activities (e.g. classroom, lunch, grounds, dismissal, etc.) for the purpose of providing for the safety and welfare of students.
  • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting Gifted and Talented student progress.
  • Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code, administrative and/or school policies.
  • Develops lessons that address grade level and Gifted and Talented content standards for the purpose of designing engaging work for students.
