About The Position

The Gift Shop Manager is responsible for appropriately representing the August Schell Brewing Company brand in a manner that positively represents our company's products, sales, and service. This position is a key member of the Visitors Center team, overseeing the Gift Shop, Museum, and Schell’s tours and staff. The role is responsible for attracting and retaining customers, establishing the Gift Shop as a recognized destination in New Ulm. The Gift Shop Manager serves as the sales leader on the floor, assisting employees with selling situations, including addressing conflicts or providing on-the-job training to new employees.

  • You must have a telephone or other reliable method of communicating with all employees
  • Able to work 40 hours per week; ability to work flexible and/or extended hours as necessary surrounding Schell’s keystone festivals and events

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (i.e., marketing, sales, hospitality, business management)

Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive and welcoming work environment for Schell’s Brewery guests and staff
  • Develop monthly work schedules for the gift shop and tour guides, based on previous sales data on similar days and local community events that would increase foot traffic into the brewery
  • Look at daily, weekly, and monthly sales numbers to understand what is selling, sell-through rates, profitability margins, and blowouts
  • Maximize sales and all opportunities, including gift shop, online store, and festival kiosks
  • Analyze, manage, and track inventory levels and make adjustments to reduce tied-up capital – what is on the sales floor, in backstock, number of items, etc.
  • Research different merchandise options and present options for purchase
  • Analyze sales trends to identify profitable products, optimal price points, and inventory turnover. Highlight fast-moving items to boost sales, and create strategies to clear slow-moving stock and refresh inventory
  • Partner with the marketing department to highlight items for social media advertising, as well as design and develop new materials to sell
  • Be available to participate in social media activities to promote the gift shop.
  • Set weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals and put plans in place to achieve them
  • Maintaining the store's visual presentation to ensure cleanliness, organization, and accurate signage and pricing on the merchandise tags
  • Ensure understanding of all company promotions and communicate to customers and gift shop employees
  • Assist customers in a calm and professional manner and address and document customer concerns
  • Effectively communicate feedback to employees, management, and owners
  • Complete and process all necessary paperwork and website orders in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist in the hiring and training of new employees
  • Conduct regular 1:1 development meetings with direct reports
  • Enforce and comply with all Schell’s Brewery policies and procedures
  • Maintain professional appearance consistent with dress code
  • Research to find economical solutions to sending out orders
  • Enter purchase orders into the POS system
  • Receive, process, and sort orders
  • Maintain organization of overstock/floor inventory
  • Take initiative, be self-sufficient, but know when to ask for help
  • Participate in special events at the brewery
  • Oversee all internet orders and ensure they are sent out in a timely manner while keeping the website up to date with current and new inventory upon its arrival.
  • Manage and track inventory numbers and perform yearly physical inventory audits.
  • Assist in the coordination and management of volunteers and/or volunteer groups for Schell’s keystone events.
  • Acting manager/point of contact for the Visitors Center on weekend coverage needs
  • Assists General Manager whenever necessary
