About The Position

The Gift Processing Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the accurate, timely, and confidential processing of charitable contributions in support of Bread for the City’s mission. The position is responsible for entering and reconciling donations, maintaining records in the constituent resource management database, Salesforce, and supporting monthly gift reconciliation processes. Working closely with the Development and Finance teams, the Gift Processing Specialist helps ensure data integrity, donor acknowledgement, and compliance with organizational policies and procedures. This position reports to the Donor Relations & Development Analytics Manager of the Development team, and is based in Washington, DC. This is a fully onsite position, Monday - Friday, rotating between Bread for the City’s Northwest and Southeast Centers as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of experience working with CRMs, bookkeeping, accounting or related fields with experience working in Salesforce appreciated.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Google Suite, Salesforce, or similar systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and willingness to assist with additional tasks as needed.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Process incoming donations in Salesforce, ensuring – amongst others – accurate fund coding, complete gift documentation, timely data entry, and acknowledgement letters.
  • Process “In Honor Of” and “In Memory Of” donations and execute gift notifications in a timely manner.
  • Perform accurate and standardized data entry to track constituent contact information and update constituent records as needed, in compliance with organizational data management protocols and policies.
  • Process all ACH payments, including PayPal gifts, received in the donations account.
  • Process credit card donations received via the caging company (DMP).
  • Transfer in-kind donation data into Salesforce as assigned and received.
  • Assist with monthly gift closing at the end of each month.
  • Maintain electronic grant files.
  • Receive and process incoming in-kind donations, including itemized assessment and evaluation, organize transfer to appropriate program, complete gift documentation with timely data entry, and issue donor receipts.
  • Responsible for answering and fielding questions for the Development phone line and dedicated email inbox.
  • Identify and participate in professional development activities and opportunities.
  • Take on special projects and additional duties as assigned.
  • Support Development events.
