About The Position

Join us as a GI Specialist at the Togus VA Medical Center located in Augusta, ME. This is a contract position with the Department of Veterans Affairs. W-2 and 1099 employment options available, inquire for more details. Duties include: Provide clinical Gastroenterology services including the full range of colonoscopy and Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) procedures such as: Colonoscopy: Colonoscopy via colostomy Colonoscopy with or without biopsy Ablation of tumor/polyp/lesion Removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by hot forceps Removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by snare technique Colonoscopy w/ submucosal Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD): EGD diagnostic EGD w/ biopsy EGD w/ removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by hot forceps EGD w. removal of tumor/polyp/lesion by snare technique Provide consultative services at patients’ bedside or in outpatient clinic. Schedule procedures within 30 days of receiving the consult. Period of Performance: 5 years total (renewed every 12 months) starting on or about 6/1/2026-5/31/2031. Schedule: Full-time, 8A-4:30P Mon-Fri. Call rotation: 1 weekend in 4 rotation (1 weekend on and 3 weekends off) and 1 holiday in every 4 holidays rotation. Carrying of hospital cell or pager and ability to respond within 15 minutes required. Must be available in-person within 1-hour. Weeknight on-call services 4:30P-8A 1 week in every 4 week rotation. We graduated from the SBA 8(a) Program and have a variety of contracts available for use. What we do: Monterey teams with general practice, specialists, and allied health practitioners nationwide to provide local coverage for examinees. We deliver a wide range of medical examination-only services to public sectors and the individuals they serve. Our clients include the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), the Department of Labor, the Department of Defense, and more. Our provider network consists of over 700 providers in various medical specialties and degree types. They conduct diagnostic-only examination services on an as-needed basis. These services may take place in their private office, established clinics located across the country, or during travel opportunities for group screening events. Requirements

  • Education. MD/DO from an accredited program minimum required.
  • Licensure and certification. Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.
  • Current BLS or ACLS required.
  • NPI and DEA required.
  • Board certification. BC/BE by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
  • Experience. Must be technically competent, qualified, and adequately trained to perform assigned duties.
  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical examination.
  • Complete an online onboarding process.
  • May be required to complete a probationary period.
  • Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
