Geotechnical/Tunnel Engineering Specialist

About The Position

STV currently has an opening for a Geotechnical & Tunnel Engineering Specialist for our Geotechnical division out of our New York City, NY office. Key responsibilities will include: Developing and implementing geotechnical subsurface exploration plans. Preparing geotechnical data reports, geotechnical interpretive reports, geotechnical baseline reports, and geotechnical design reports. Interpreting geology, geotechnical and hydrologic conditions and understanding their impact on design and construction. Performing geotechnical foundation design for bridges, buildings, and other structures. Performing geotechnical analyses for embankments, dikes, and dams. Performing pavement condition assessments and design. Performing design of earth retention systems, rock and soil slopes, ground improvement. Design of rock and soil tunnel initial support using numerical and empirical methods. Assisting in preparation of proposals. Required Experience: Project work will include heavy civil infrastructure structures such as highway bridges and widening projects, railroad improvements, rail facilities, tunnels, underground structures such substations, and treatment facilities throughout the United States and Canada. Engineering-In-Training (EIT) Certification preferred. Prior experience with SLOPE/W, SLIDE, SETTLE3, All Pile, GROUP, LPILE, and OpenGround is highly preferred but not required. Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related disciplines is preferred but not required. Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience in rock and soil logging and subsurface investigations is preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
