Geotechnical Specialist Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, LLC is actively seeking a self-motivated Geotechnical Specialist to join the team in Virginia Beach. Position Summary The Geotechnical Specialist will work under the guidance of the Geotechnical Engineer and will be responsible for geotechnical analyses and designs for infrastructure projects that will include roadways, bridges, retaining walls, soils, asphalt, pavement, rock slopes, etc. They will perform and develop subsurface investigation and laboratory testing plans, review boring logs and laboratory data. The designer will assist with design plans for a variety of geotechnical projects, to include slope stability, driving piles and boring drill shafts, reviewing seismic design deliverables, and providing guidance/feedback regarding seismic design methods. Job duties include structural design utilizing AASHTO and other applicable design specifications as well as state and local design requirements. Position Responsibilities Responsible for performing a variety of field foundation and geotechnical testing, analysis of collected data, and timely reporting of test results under the supervision of the Geotechnical Testing Manager. The main area of work will be located in VA, with projects across the Southeast to include, but not limited to, NC, GA, SC, LA, MS, FL, and AL. Additional responsibilities will include geotechnical design as needed, under the supervision of the senior engineer, to support the geotechnical group. Maintain organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals. Proactively communicate with Geotech group, other disciplines, clients, and subconsultants. Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary. Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field with a Geotechnical concentration required. Master of Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical concentration preferred. EIT desired (EIT’s will be assigned as Geotechnical Designer until they obtain their PE). A minimum of 1 year of geotechnical experience preferred. Must have experience using MicroStation and commonly used geotechnical engineering software. Knowledgeable in job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts. Strong communication skills are expected, both oral and written. Must be legally authorized to work in the US and have a safe driving record. Travel or Environment Requirements Must have dependable transportation to attend meetings or to make field visits on a short notice. Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time to various projects located in the Southeast. Visually observing and differentiating details and colors of objects. Recognizing sound, tone, and pitch; speaking and writing clearly and effectively. Adjusting to interruption and changes. Sitting for extended periods. Working in hot, cold, and noisy work areas; standing, and walking when visiting job sites.
