About The Position

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is looking for a motivated Engineer/Geologist Intern to join our technical practice in our Somerset, New Jersey office. As an Entry-Level Engineer/Geologist Intern, you will work on a wide variety of exciting projects amongst a team of dedicated project managers and principals. Our close-knit culture here at GZA will allow you to apply your expertise and diversify your skill set by participating in challenging projects. You will be mentored by seasoned professional engineers/ scientists, who will in turn look to you to share technical knowledge and ideas. Our success relies on this collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or related field is required.
  • Ability to perform field tasks and activities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Has a reliable means of transportation to/from project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Strong communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Office and AutoCAD skills are preferred.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a professional attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Perform outdoor, all-season, geotechnical, geohydrologic, or environmental field tasks and assist with the technical execution of projects.
  • Conduct subsurface geotechnical and geologic investigations in connection with building, infrastructure and other development projects.
  • Perform field permeability testing and hydrogeologic evaluations for infiltration facilities.
  • Conduct laboratory testing in our soils mechanics laboratory.
  • Reducing and summarizing geohydrologic and geotechnical data and preparing plans for inclusion in interpretive reports for clients.
  • Conduct field and office QA/QC responsibilities.
  • Provide geotechnical monitoring and using instrumentation to record vibrations, settlements, slope movements, water levels, water quality, and other critical geotechnical and environmental data.
  • Perform geotechnical and stormwater related construction monitoring field tasks such as embankment fill and retaining wall construction, foundation installation, in-situ permeability testing, and sinkhole stabilization.
