About The Position

Your Opportunity Stantec is seeking qualified candidates for a Civil or Geotechnical Engineer in Training. The primary focus of this position is to serve U.S. and International-based natural resources clients (primarily mining) with the design and monitoring of earth structures (i.e. tailings storage facilities, waste rock management facilities, natural slopes, etc.). The Civil or Geotechnical Engineer in Training will join a team of about 30 geotechnical engineers across our western regional offices. This position will require a dynamic individual who can assist with site investigations, construction oversight and field monitoring, geotechnical designs and analyses, and technical reporting. This position interacts throughout the organization internally and externally with clients and members of business and professional organizations. Travel for on-site support at various project sites will be required for up to 50% of time annually. Requirements

  • Exceptional technical writing skills, organizational skills, technical leadership abilities, oral communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in the office and at remote sites.
  • Understanding that field assignments at remote project locations for multiple week rotations are an expectation of this role, with willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of your time.
  • Desire to learn and work in a collaborative team setting.
  • Must have a good driving record and valid Driver's License
  • Minimum of a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of experience working on civil and/or geotechnical engineering projects, focusing on detailed design, site investigation, and technical communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to candidates who have taken and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE).
  • Experience with seepage, slope stability and deformation analyses and supporting modeling software (such as GeoStudio, RocScience, FLAC).
  • Experience with mine waste/tailing management design or mine closure/reclamation designs.
  • Preference given to mine waste/tailings management related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner. MSHA and/or OSHA training will be required.
  • Assist with developing, overseeing, and interpreting civil/geotechnical field work and laboratory testing programs; primarily focused on mining projects.
  • Support civil/geotechnical design through the use of modeling software.
  • Prepare technical memoranda and detailed reports pertaining to field investigations and design studies.
  • Assist with preparing proposals and preparing and giving presentations.
