Hours of Work: 4/10’s, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., Mon-Thurs The ideal candidate will have work experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Oracle including knowledge of SQL; have technical exposure to GIS and spatial concepts related to utilities. Demonstrate the ability to comprehend and translate engineering drawing content including field markups; have experience creating, editing, and plotting GIS-based maps and CAD drawings. The ideal candidate will have exposure to survey-grade GPS equipment, postprocessing, and data use. The ideal candidate would also be able to work well independently and within small groups to meet high volume targets; gracefully handle repeated work interruptions from and interactions with all levels of staff; have an extreme attention to detail. Have the ability to convey technical issues in a concise and well, thought-out manner. In addition, the candidate would currently possess or be able to obtain certifications in water distribution and/or transmission systems; be able to follow standard practices yet be observant enough to identify their shortcomings; and have the ability to learn new processes and tools quickly. INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The candidate hired will be required to pass a drug screening, background check, and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation. GENERAL PURPOSE Under general supervision, uses GIS, CAD, GPS and other programs, tools and utilities to capture, verify, revise and maintain facilities data in the enterprise facilities geodatabase; interprets and clarifies inspector notes, digital redline and field mark-up drawings; ensures the completeness and accuracy of all data fields; prepares record drawings and performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: GIS, CAD and other software concepts, systems and processes; tools and analytical techniques, including computerized mapping and attribute-data conversion, manipulation and analysis; applicable scripts, SQL and other query tools and methods, utilities and other tools; basic database and system administration techniques as required to move data and files between applications and repositories and perform database queries; terminology, methods, practices, techniques and nomenclature of civil, mechanical and/or electrical engineering drafting as they apply to assigned duties; engineering mathematics, including algebra, geometry and trigonometry; general methods of water facilities construction and construction inspection; basic design and operations of District/SNWA distribution and transmission systems.
  • Ability to: Utilize GIS, CAD and other applications and tools to complete assigned projects efficiently and accurately; perform highly detailed data capture thoroughly, efficiently and with a high degree of accuracy to create, edit, revise and maintain facilities infrastructure data; research and interpret field notes, engineering and construction drawings, digital redlines, GPS and other data to identify and resolve discrepancies and missing data on assigned projects; perform engineering computations applicable to the work; prepare a wide variety of maps and other products to meet engineering customer requirements; work effectively both individually and as a team member; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, inspectors and employees in other departments and others encountered in the course of work.
  • Training and Experience: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is an Associate's degree from a recognized community college or vocational school; and at least two years of responsible technical experience in the use and operations of CAD and GIS systems, preferably in a public utility or engineering organization; or an equivalent level of training and experience.
  • A valid Nevada driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
