About The Position

The Geospatial Architecture Specialist shall provide Enterprise GIS, geospatial programming, and analytical support services to support the mission of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA). The Geospatial Architecture Specialist will work under the direction of the Division Chief and Branch Chiefs and collaborate with government GIS specialists, program analysts, physical scientists, and other stakeholders. Services will support enterprise GIS operations, data management, automation, dashboards, and business analytics using tools such as the ESRI GIS Suite, SmartsheetGOV, Python, cloud platforms, and other emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Experience with ESRI Enterprise GIS environments
  • Proficiency in geospatial data management, analysis, and cartography
  • Experience with Python and GIS automation; scripting knowledge preferred
  • Understanding of federal geospatial standards (FGDC, NSDI, DOI)
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems, cloud environments, and database management
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholder coordination skills

Responsibilities

  • Translate and modernize existing Python scripts and automation tools to new platforms
  • Develop programs to manage, standardize, and publish large geospatial datasets
  • Design and implement automated workflows for land status, parcel fabric, and map production
  • Integrate TAAMS land description data with BLM PLSS CAD NSDI GCDB datasets
  • Develop server- and client-side scripts using Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or web technologies
  • Apply geodatabase architecture and system design principles
  • Support scripting and automation for special projects across the Division
  • Respond to project requests involving GIS, data analysis, automation, dashboards, and applications
  • Perform requirements gathering, customer journey mapping, and business process engineering
  • Support system lifecycle development, enterprise workflows, and data governance
  • Coordinate with federal stakeholders to support mission-critical geospatial initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with federal security, data, metadata, and publication standards
