About The Position

This position is accountable for the preparation of complex geometric designs and feasibility studies; and the review of work prepared by consultants, other bureaus, units and governmental agencies to assure compliance with accepted geometric design standards and policies.Essential Functions Ensures that personally prepared geometric designs are consistent and in accordance with federal and state standards, policies and guidelines while being mindful of established schedules. Completes location, design and feasibility studies in accordance with established schedules. Ensures complete, accurate, and timely reviews of geometrics designs prepared by other units, bureaus, consultants, agencies and private developers. Provides assistance and guidance to other units, bureaus, consultants, counties and municipalities in the preparation of geometric studies. Participates in the preparation, review, and recommendation of projects to be included in the District’s Safety Program as well as Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Four years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Occasional attendance at meetings and conferences outside of normal working hours.
  • District-wide and state-wide travel.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employmentor within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in computer-based traffic analysis applications.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and national geometric guidance, policies, and standards.
  • Proven ability to interact with local governmental units as well as large organizations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
