About The Position

Seneca Resources Company, LLC, the oil & gas exploration and production subsidiary of National Fuel Gas Company (NYSE: NFG) explores for, develops and produces natural gas and crude oil reserves in Appalachia. The Geology Intern will serve as an integral member of the Exploration team with responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • Current junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Master's Degree in Geology, Geophysics, or Geochemistry
  • Completed courses in core areas of geoscience (such as geophysics, structure, mineralogy, sedimentology/stratigraphy, geomorphology, etc.)
  • Basic Microsoft proficiency (Excel, Outlook, Word, and Power Point) required
  • Ability to work well in a large group environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • The successful candidate must be authorized to work in United States of America.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with geophysical interpretation software is preferred (eg, Petrel, Geographix, etc)
  • Computer programming experience (eg, Python, Matlab, R, etc) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist Geologists in mapping and interpreting subsurface data for Marcellus and Utica shale plays
  • Contribute to reservoir characterization for unconventional resources
  • Interpret geophysical datasets (seismic, microseismic, well logs) using industry-standard software such as Petrel, Geographix, and/or ArcGIS
  • Work with Geologic staff to expand Seneca’s area of subsurface understanding across the Appalachian Basin
  • Assist in the design and execution of data acquisition projects
  • Visit Seneca’s operation sites
  • Explore Seneca’s play and log data library for additional opportunities (conventional targets, CO₂ sequestration, geothermal, gas storage)
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary meetings to review development plans for Marcellus and Utica assets
  • Apply machine learning and statistical methods to drilling, completions, production, and subsurface data to optimize operations and enhance understanding
  • Complete an analytical project during the internship and present findings to leadership and technical teams
  • Comply with Seneca’s EHSQ policies, standards and procedures and demonstrate active and regular involvement in EHSQ programs
