About The Position

The student ambassador will assist with recruitment efforts to encourage high school students, community college, and current ISU students to apply and accept offers to the Geography or Geology programs at Illinois State University. Students in this position should be well prepared to answer questions related to the programs, department, and university. Ambassadors will also create and be in charge of monthly engagements for current major students. There will be training for this position. Student employees are eligible to participate in the University’s 403(b) Plan.

Requirements

  • Be a major in Geography, Geography Education, ESSS, Geology, or Earth and Space Science
  • Be a student in good academic and disciplinary standing at Illinois State University
  • Be available for various campus and community needs throughout the year upon request
  • Be outgoing and involved in department and/or campus activities
  • Need to be available on some weekends
  • Effectively communicate on a daily basis

Nice To Haves

  • Sophomore standing or above

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruitment efforts to encourage high school students, community college, and current ISU students to apply and accept offers to the Geography or Geology programs at Illinois State University
  • Interact with prospective students at Open Houses organized by Illinois State University throughout the year (typically occurring on Fridays)
  • Organize recruiting activities
  • Hold tutoring hours
  • Reach out to potential students through phone calls, emails, letters, and social media
  • Answer questions related to the programs, department, and university
  • Create and be in charge of monthly engagements for current major students
