Joining the Clinical Genomics team at Helix at this point in time will allow a genetic counselor to contribute to building new diagnostic tests and enabling population genomics screening. Helix is at the beginning of its diagnostics journey, and your voice will be indispensable in the growth and development of this endeavor.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or higher in genetic counseling or human genetics
  • Valid Genetic Counselor License or Temporary Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California
  • Meets licensing requirements for the state of residence
  • 2+ years working as a genetic counselor in the context of carrier screening and/or rare disease Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Initiative-driven, self-motivated
  • Collaborative, constructive cross-functional team member

  • Variant interpretation experience
  • Experience in pharmacogenomics and/or population genomics

Responsibilities

  • Review current clinical guidelines as relevant to Helix’s hereditary cancer, hereditary cardiovascular disease, pharmacogenomics and/or population genomics presence.
  • Perform gene-level curation to identify challenging genomic regions within the test design
  • Estimate test sensitivity and specificity given design parameters
  • Create clinician and patient-facing test support materials
  • Calculate post-test residual risks
  • Define and create test reports suitable for clinician and patient consumption
  • As needed, support variant interpretation activities
  • Act as a stakeholder for teams building tools for interpretation and reporting
  • Actively participates in continuing education series including journal clubs, complex variant discussions/presentations, and conferences, as needed
