Genome Design Lead Genome Design Lead As a Genome Design Lead, you will expertly and independently conduct resource planning and prioritization, talent management responsibility (recruiting, hiring, developing talent through coaching and mentoring), and project/timeline management. You will guide and support the development and application of foundational genomics and quantitative genetics technology and strategy for key vegetable crops. This role enables genome-wide analysis for locating important trait genes and lays the foundational preparedness for new technology adoption in partnership with Data Science and IT teams, such as predictive breeding, rapid cycling, and genomic selection.

Requirements

  • University degree in Breeding, Genetics, Genomics, or other relevant field
  • People management experience in complex research organizations, including prioritization, budget management, and talent management
  • Technical and conceptual know-how of experimental design, statistics and data analysis workflows, and data-driven breeding methodologies in multiple crops
  • Skilled in project management, strategic thinking, and change management
  • Innovative and strategic mindset with the ability to identify and drive implementation of leading-edge technology to enhance pipeline profitability
  • Social competencies to understand, influence, and motivate across professional backgrounds, nationalities, cultures, and languages, and resilience to lead through change
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills

Responsibilities

  • Conduct resource planning and prioritization, talent management responsibility, and project/timeline management
  • Guide and support the development and application of foundational genomics and quantitative genetics technology and strategy for key vegetable crops
  • Enable genome-wide analysis for locating important trait genes and lay foundational preparedness for new technology adoption
  • Identify and develop molecular capabilities (e.g., SNP and sequencing technology, genome editing) and quantitative genetics methods for genome-wide data acquisition and use within trait discovery and breeding pipelines
  • Deploy molecular breeding capabilities in prioritized pipelines to enable tagging or tracking of alleles from traits and genetic prediction models
  • Partner in the development and testing of new technology capabilities and co-design their strategic deployment into enterprise data analytics pipelines (predictive analytics, trait indexing, AI)
  • Coach, mentor, and influence technical teams to align on strategic vision, create and maintain key connections across teams, and adopt DSO ways of working
  • Identify and develop external research partnerships and collaborations with service providers and academic research groups
  • Communicate with and educate stakeholders on the use of new genetics/genomics breeding technology
  • Influence organizational and operational vision and architecture as a member of the Design & Development Exchange Team and the Vegetables R&D Leadership
