The Department of Genome Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) invites applications for a Biostatistician. This position will focus on managing large datasets, developing and applying statistical methods, machine learning approaches, and AI-driven computational tools. The Biostatistician will work under the supervision of Dr. Ziqiao Wang and there will be opportunities to collaborate with the Department of Data Science, Department of Statistics, and UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center. Key Responsibilities Perform data analyses using statistical software (e.g., R, Python) Manage large-scale datasets (including genetics, omics, clinical characteristics Contribute to manuscript preparation Minimum Qualifications Education: Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field Preferred Qualifications At least 1 year of data analysis experience in statistical genetics or genomics Proficiency in statistical programming (e.g., R, Python) The ability to manage large datasets Experience with biobanks such as the UK Biobank and All of Us, or public datasets such as TCGA A collaborative mindset and good communication skills Physical Demands This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. The anticipated hiring range is $65,000–$75,000, commensurate with education and experience. This is a 12-month appointment after which continued employment will depend on satisfactory performance, department need, and funding. This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3-4 days on grounds per week, with additional on-site presence as needed, in accordance with UVA’s remote work guidelines.
