About The Position

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB Provides genetic counseling services in accordance with professional standards of the NSGC and ABMG to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders. REPORTS TO Genetics Program Coordinator JOB REQUIREMENTS Supervisory Responsibilities: No Minimum Education: Masters Degree required. Degree: Degree in Genetic Counseling License/Certification Required: Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics or completion within 18 months. Minimum Work Experience: 1 year of related experience preferred. New graduates are encouraged to apply. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Requirements

  • Masters Degree required.
  • Degree in Genetic Counseling
  • Board certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics or completion within 18 months.
  • 1 year of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts genetic risk assessment and collects family history for pedigree analysis.
  • Provides genetic counseling to individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders.
  • Prepares case summaries and genetic counseling letters and documentation.
  • Monitors genetic testing process with laboratory, physicians, and patients/families.
  • Participates in federal, state, and private stakeholder meetings and other programmatic activities as needed.
  • Effectively and professionally interacts and collaborates with other providers of patient care.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Explains procedures and medications in a manner that the patient or family understands.
  • Provides leadership in the coordination of multidisciplinary health care.
  • Acquires and maintains clinical competencies as demonstrated through return demonstration or successfully completing computer based learning modules.
  • Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues to enhance professional development.
  • Promptly, thoroughly and accurately records applicable patient charges to ensure appropriate billing of services.
  • Stocks supplies and equipment in a proactive basis and/or as directed.
  • Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
  • Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.
