We are seeking a Generator Start-Up Specialist to oversee the commissioning, testing, and start-up of critical backup power systems, specifically focused on DRUPS / UPS flywheel technology and rotating equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in generator installations, system commissioning, and troubleshooting. This role requires up to 50% travel, and candidates are encouraged to apply if located near an airport.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting and testing of backup power systems, such as generators or UPS systems
  • Experience with UPS flywheel technology / generators: Piller, Hitec, Active Power, MTU, Rolls Royce is highly desired
  • Familiarity / Training with OEM: Kohler, CAT, Cummins, Generac
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (a huge plus)
  • Proven experience working with electrical and mechanical systems, particularly in a critical facility or mission-critical environment
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, with proximity to an airport
  • Travel for startups generally take 2.5 weeks per generator
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide client-facing support during system start-up
  • Experience using ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Teams)

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in the Military / Military Veterans a huge plus!
  • Experience with Electrical / Mechanical: Navy nukes - EMN, ETN, MMNs, Seabees, Army - Power Generation, Air Force – Power Production, Generator Techs, Maritime, Coast Guard, Army National Guard, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commissioning, testing, and start-up of critical power systems, ensuring systems meet performance standards
  • Conduct pre-commissioning activities and validate the proper setup of generators, including electrical and mechanical components
  • Work with internal teams and clients to ensure equipment is installed, started, and functioning according to specifications
  • Provide technical expertise during system commissioning, including troubleshooting, testing, and performance verification of backup power systems
  • Monitor and adjust project schedules, and costs to ensure successful on-time and on-budget project completion
  • Coordinate with clients, internal teams, and external vendors to ensure smooth integration of systems and address any technical or commercial issues
  • Identify opportunities for upselling additional services or upgrades during commissioning and convert them into new orders
  • Perform training and support to customers on the operation and maintenance of newly commissioned systems
