About The Position

Primary Duties Reporting to the Plant Superintendent, the General Operation Supervisor is responsible for the production and safe work practices of an assigned area of a sawmill or plywood plant. The primary function is to provide leadership, general supervision, and direction to shift supervisors and hourly production employees. Essential Functions Manages production of primary processing within area of responsibility. Supervises, motivates, and trains assigned salaried and hourly staff ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of work quality, and organizational performance. Reports to management results of safety, production, maintenance, and quality of the entire area of responsibility. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with other department superintendents in the plant. Responsible for product quality, ensuring that it conforms to established guidelines. Trains and develops supervisors and hourly employees in all aspects of safe work practices (e.g., investigations of accidents, safety meetings, safety training, development of processes, etc.). Develops good employee relations, promptly handles and resolves employee complaints, grievances and performance issues. Knowledgeable of plant policies and procedures. Determines priority of maintenance requirements. Assists in establishing preventative maintenance schedules.

Requirements

  • College degree, or equivalent work experience in related job function.
  • Must have a minimum of five (5) years supervisory/management work experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • This position requires analytical and problem-solving skills, a good working knowledge of computers and excellent communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to generate and understand production models.
