About The Position

At Alcoa Massena Operations, general mechanics install, repair, weld, prepare and layout work from blueprints, fabricate, maintain, and troubleshoot machinery and equipment including, piping systems, pumps, conveyor type systems, and work on various types of production equipment including aluminum reduction cells, cranes and furnaces.

Requirements

  • Possess a High School degree or GED
  • Valid NYS Journeyperson mechanical license or similar mechanic certification
  • Ability to read layout drawings and blueprints
  • Proven mechanical ability involving welding, fabricating, machinery installation, alignment, rigging, machining and the ability to work with precision to within a thousandth of an inch.
  • Good observational skills to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair machine problems are important
  • Work from shop orders, blueprints, sketches and/or verbal information to layout, setup and operate metal working equipment such as shears, brake, rolls, drill press, power saws, welding machines, spot welders, etc. and use a regular range of hand tools to fabricate, repair and build iron work products
  • Possess an excellent work history, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Be willing to work any shift, including rotating shifts and weekends
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available
  • Be willing to take a proficiency exam
