Learn how you can start or jumpstart your career with us. Qnity has an immediate opening for an experienced Maintenance Mechanic at our Towanda, PA site. RESPONSIBILITIES DESCRIPTION As a Maintenance Mechanic you will complete repairs and maintain machinery using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring and testing instruments. You will engage in rebuilding, repairing, and maintaining a variety of machines and equipment; d esign and co-ordination of Maintenance activities will also be required, along with knowledge and understanding of equipment operation. The Maintenance Mechanic must participate in design, development, and start-up of mechanical systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years of relevant work experience within the Maintenance/Industrial Mechanical field; OR 2-year technical degree within Maintenance/Industrial Mechanical field; OR completion of a formal Maintenance/Industrial Mechanic apprentice program.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work weekday, day or rotating shift structure, and overtime as needed on a regular basis if required.
  • Ability to read drawings and technical manuals for guidance when performing necessary operations for the installation and/or repair of equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include safety equipment, earplugs, gloves, safety glasses, hardhats, respirators, hairnets, and steel-toed shoes.
  • Participate on the site Emergency Response Team (ERT).

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of pneumatics is preferred.
  • Mechanic Technical Training Certificate or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Work from drawings, written specifications, and/or verbal instructions install, maintain, and repair machinery such as web lines, pumps, rolls, etc.
  • Replace mechanical seals used on rotating equipment.
  • Identify, select, fabricate, install, and repair piping and related hangers and hardware.
  • Set up and use the oxy-acetylene equipment to perform heating and cutting associated with maintenance work.
  • Perform basic non-critical welds (SMAW) on steels associated with minor fabrication, installation, and repair of equipment.
  • Perform alignment of equipment and drives according to standard practice and within equipment specifications (i.e., shaft-to-shaft, V-belts). Experience with Optical alignment.
  • Set up and perform hydrostatic tests on piping and equipment per specifications and Dupont standards.
  • Perform basic machine shop skills such as boring couplings, broaching or cutting keyways, turning a shaft, and surface grinding a pump face.
  • Select, install, troubleshoot, and repair steam traps.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair centrifugal and positive displacement pumps.
  • Repair and troubleshoot Diaphragm pumps and gear pumps.
  • Identify and install the correct bearings and seals for specific applications.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and associated equipment.
