As a GM at Mackey's, you are not simply managing a store — you are leading a team, championing a culture, and delivering a customer experience that sets us apart. You will be the standard-bearer for everything Mackey's stands for: trust, integrity, and genuine care for every person who walks through our doors. This is an operationally active General Manager position, supporting the team to execute store operations as well as delivering people first customer service.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop a team of 5 or more team members
  • Track record of delivering exceptional customer service and holding a team to that standard
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills; capable of managing competing demands calmly and effectively
  • Proficiency with Windows-based software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Clear, tactful communication skills — both written and verbal — with the ability to engage diverse audiences with empathy and respect
  • Proven problem-solving ability; resourceful, calm under pressure, and focused on solutions
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Availability from 8am–7pm with weekday and weekend flexibility; minimum 45 hours per week
  • Willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including drug testing, reference verification, and background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a mission- and values-driven organization
  • Background in independently managing store-level P&L, scheduling, and inventory
  • Experience building a team culture from the ground up or leading a team through significant change
  • Familiarity with garden, outdoor, or specialty retail products
  • Experience opening or closing a retail location as the key holder

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the culture carrier for the Woodstock location — modeling Mackey's core values in every interaction with team members and customers
  • Recruit, onboard, coach, and develop a high-performing team; identify talent and create pathways for growth and advancement
  • Conduct regular one-on-one check-ins, performance conversations, and team huddles that build trust and alignment
  • Hold yourself and others accountable to Mackey's standards with fairness, consistency, and respect
  • Foster a work environment where team members feel valued, respected, and empowered to do their best work
  • Champion a culture of extraordinary, personalized customer service — ensuring every customer leaves knowing they matter
  • Resolve customer concerns and escalations promptly, with empathy, ownership, and a commitment to making things right
  • Model and reinforce service standards that reflect Mackey's mission of trust and reliability
  • Actively seek feedback from customers and team members to continuously improve the experience
  • Oversee all daily store operations including opening and closing procedures, scheduling, and inventory management
  • Lead seasonal merchandising setups and promotional execution with attention to detail and a sense of urgency
  • Ensure proper receiving, stocking, and product integrity processes are followed consistently
  • Monitor key business metrics (sales, shrink, labor) and develop action plans to drive results
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized store environment that reflects our commitment to quality
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
  • Manage scheduling and labor allocation to balance business needs with team member satisfaction
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the CEO and leadership team regarding store performance, opportunities, and concerns
  • Contribute ideas and insights that help Mackey's evolve, improve, and grow — because we believe growth never stops
  • Participate in company-wide initiatives and represent the Woodstock location with pride
