Job Summary: The General Manager is the leader of the Godfrey, IL site, responsible for the overall direction and performance of manufacturing operations. This includes managing all aspects of personnel, equipment, order fulfillment, customer service, maintenance, and physical inventory management. The General Manager ensures site safety, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency while driving continuous improvement and building a high-performing team. This role is accountable for full P&L management, surpassing financial targets by controlling costs, enhancing productivity, and supporting revenue growth. The General Manager also plays a critical hands-on leadership role, providing daily supervision, interaction, and direction for all employees at the site. Our Godfrey plant manufactures and distributes a variety of recycled rubber landscaping products, including rubber tree rings, rubber pavers, and rubber edgers.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels.
  • Solid business acumen with experience leading change and achieving safety and business objectives.
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Strong ability to delegate critical tasks and follow up on individual performance to provide guardrails when needed and prevent failure.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in manufacturing, covering safety, production, quality, financials, and employee development.
  • Working knowledge of all facets of manufacturing, including safety, production, quality, financials, continuous improvement, team building, employee relations, customer service, purchasing, and distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Champion the site’s safety culture by demonstrating a passion for safe work practices and reinforcing that safety is our company’s #1 priority, while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Conduct timely fire and safety checks and ensure adherence to standardized work practices, SOPs, and housekeeping checklists.
  • Lead and manage all site operations, including raw materials receiving, manufacturing, maintenance, and logistics.
  • Take full ownership of Profit and Loss (P&L) performance; analyze financial reports to identify trends, manage budgets, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Surpass financial targets by controlling production costs, enhancing productivity, and driving revenue growth.
  • Learn and utilize Liberty’s financial systems and reporting tools for detailed tracking and management of revenue and costs.
  • Actively manage seasonal production planning with the ability to find flexible solutions to meet unforeseen changes in demand while maintaining labor-related financial efficiency.
  • Oversee an effective preventative maintenance program to ensure equipment reliability and facility upkeep aligned with company, safety, and 5S standards.
  • Manage feedstock, finished-product inventory, and outbound logistics.
  • Actively manage new product development in collaboration with internal and external resources.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across safety, personnel development, finance, productivity, quality, inventory, delivery, and cost throughout the supply chain.
  • Foster a culture of root-cause identification and error-proofing problem solving.
  • Communicate key developments, learnings, and challenges to support best-practice sharing across the organization.
