Primary Purpose The role of a general shop journey is to assist the general shop lead in completing all work assigned to the general shop and to guide and train the apprentice. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency Hold and maintain valid Texas Driver's License and maintain good driving record Journey level performance as demonstrated by references and experiences 3 - 5 years journey level experience in commercial work Must have experience or be willing to work including but not limited to grounds, heavy equipment, concrete, masonry, welding, digging, herbicides and pesticides, irrigation systems, etc. Be willing to work with and become knowledgeable in related systems and methods such as but not limited to area drainage, grading, bleacher and goal systems, school related athletic and education equipment and events. Be willing to work with computers and other technology items, program and procedures required for Abilene Independent School District (AISD), tasks and needs. Must have basic knowledge of, experience with and/or willing to learn Repair, build, demolish, replace items, components or physical construction projects. Conforms work to plans, specifications, sketches, or directions in a safe, quality and good workmanship manner. Follow good construction practices Be able to detect/repair/replace faulty systems and components including, but not limited to, bleachers, goals, grounds equipment, etc. Be able to repair/replace building and site equipment items including, but not limited to, irrigation systems, concrete, structure; such as walks, ramps and steps, fencing systems, etc. Be able to understand and conform to regulations related to insecticides, pesticides, herbicides, etc. Provide as directed and maintain all playground items and installation in conformance to the latest and most stringent playground safety standards. Maintain documents to indicate roper maintenance and schedule of maintenance. Include dates and personnel performing maintenance. Maintain all site related furniture, benches, signage, play slabs, markings, etc. Maintain all parking areas, drives, and exterior concrete work Be able to cut and prune trees of all heights to remove and control excess, undesired, diseased wood and foliage. Eliminate interference with power and/or communication lines above and below ground. Remove branches and trees to protect nearby buildings and equipment. Cut and remove designated trees and stumps. Recognize and report trees and shrubs having disease or other unhealthy conditions that would create a safety hazard Be able to or have experience relating to tractors, backhoe and loaders Be able to dig trenches, grade and level, remove trees and shrubs, load and unload trucks, dig post holes and drainage ditches Have enough strength and physical dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job Inspects completed assignments to ensure that satisfactory work quality, operating procedures, efficiency, progress, me Provide supervision and training of persons assigned Willing to acquire a Non-Commercial Structural Pest Control Board of Texas Certified Applicator and other related license(s) that may be required Continue to learn and develop in the field Major Responsibilities and Duties: Be honest, dependable and of good moral character. Be a self-starter, high initiative and require little supervision. Support board and administrative policies and decisions. Maintain professional work environment through a positive attitude, punctuality, regular attendance, phone etiquette, and personal appearance. Repair/replacement of General Shop systems for all AISD facilities Conform to industry and shop standards of safety. Maintain a functional awareness of the typical hazards of the workplace as well as the special hazards that may be encountered by the trade. Promptly report accidents on the job. Prepare and submit accident reports to Supervisor. Responsible for adhering to policies, practices, and procedures on safety and operational instructions. Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes. Performs work according to codes, manufacturer's specifications, department and trade guidelines and standards Reports observed facility discrepancies to supervisor Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications, shop drawings, schematic manufacturer's specs, and other reference materials to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures May be required to assist with maintaining files Prepares and submits paperwork for materials required to complete assigned tasks. Plans work to ensure cost effective use of labor and materials Perform assigned staff work including hazardous and other waste management Apprentice will be in daily contact with members of the District while following routine work schedules Contact with outside suppliers, vendors and representatives also anticipated Responsible for the following Responsible for the adherence to work rules and policies Inspects the work site to determine methods of repair; supplies, tools, and the level of staffing needed to complete the work Assigns shop personnel to specific tasks and supervises these activities, assisting in layout, fabrication and assembly problems Provides for the transportation of tools, equipment and materials to job site Orders materials including tools necessary for the installation of new areas and the remodeling of existing areas Coordinates the activities of the assigned shop personnel to coincide with those of other crafts as required for the work Other: Keep Shop Supervisor informed as to job progress or changes that have to be made Check in and out daily with the Shop Lead or in the absence of the Shop Supervisor, the next senior management personnel Conform to industry and shop standards of safety. Provide list(s) of materials as needed to complete work assigned Load and unload materials and equipment as necessary Be familiar with technology and have basic computer skills, i.e., keyboard, Microsoft software programs, iPads and e-mail Keep all equipment and tools operating properly, safely and in concordance with applicable codes and related safety regulations and recommendations Responsible for proper and legal handling of all hazardous and other waste, etc. storage and disposal Must be able to wear and use confined space gear May be required to obtain an asbestos license, lead management or other license as deemed necessary Be available for emergency response and support, i.e., duties may require overtime, weekends, late night work and holiday work to perform the tasks required by AISD Coordinate scheduling of work on campus with principals. Check in prior to commencing work - brief principal prior to leaving. Work with other trades and shops in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation Keep all work areas clean. Thorough clean up should be done at the end of all completed work. A Journeyman is expected to improve and expand knowledge in the field Conform to the District's and Maintenance' department policies Misc. Information: Work with frequent interruptions Frequent standing, walking and sitting for prolonged periods of time Assembling and moving ladders, scaffolding, trailers, compressors, etc. Lifting and carrying up to 80 pounds May be required to wear a respirator and pass appropriate pulmonary physical Exposure to noise and communicable diseases Extreme cold/heat Exposure to wet and humid conditions Work in confined spaces Exposure to legal limits of pesticides and herbicides Exposure to odors and gases Tolerate exposure to grasses and other outside environments
