About The Position

Cactus Feeders is an Amarillo, Texas-based cattle company. Originally founded by the Engler Family in 1975, Cactus is now 100% Employee Owned, producing a million head of fed cattle annually. The Company has locations throughout the Texas Panhandle, Southwest Kansas, and Eastern Colorado. Hale Center Feedyard is seeking a General Maintenance Operator to operate equipment and perform repairs that support the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and feed bunk systems. The role also includes completing various welding projects and other maintenance tasks as needed.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Nice To Haves

High School Degree, GED, or Technical Degree, preferred
1-2 Years of welding experience, preferred

Responsibilities

Identifies, cleans, and maintains pens
Maintains road surfaces, bunk pads, pens, and alleys by filling in holes, controlling dust, and removing accumulated manure; takes care to leave hard pack intact while also maintaining pen slope and grade; and operates heavy equipment.
Helps ensure a continuous supply of fresh water to cattle by performing repairs to the water system and tanks.
Mows grass/weeds and sweeps bunks by operating tractor/mower; paints or re-paints pens, building, etc.
Ensures operation of equipment by completing servicing requirements specified by the manager (may include: fueling, checking fluid levels, checking filters, greasing, and cleaning equipment).
Expected to demonstrate understanding of company policies and adapt to changes in the work environment.
Ability to weld and run basic equipment (skidsteer and forklift)
Perform welding and fabrication projects to repair, modify, or build equipment, tools, and structures as needed.
Exhibit sound and accurate judgment when observing safety and security procedures and reporting potentially unsafe conditions.
Complies with all applicable safety rules and policies.
