Ameresco is hiring a General Maintenance Mechanic to support operations at a high‑pressure steam and central utility plant in Washington, DC. The General Maintenance Mechanic will work as part of the Operations Team to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant and facility operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Minimum 2 years of maintenance or mechanical experience.
  • Ability to review confidential U.S. security information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a central utility plant or high‑pressure steam environment.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, steam, hot water, pumps, valves, refrigeration, pneumatic systems, DDC controls, and building safety systems.
  • EPA CFC Universal Certification or ability to obtain.
  • Familiarity with plant safety standards and operating procedures.
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Physical ability to bend, reach, climb, and lift 75+ lbs. as required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, test, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems, air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), pumps, piping, valves, and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance activities and plant rounds; identify, report, and address abnormal operating conditions.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical system issues and perform corrective repairs in accordance with site procedures and safety requirements.
  • Assist with equipment start‑up and shutdown following established SOPs.
  • Perform necessary adjustments and calibration of mechanical equipment and related controls.
  • Respond to maintenance and trouble calls and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Complete work orders, shift logs, and daily maintenance documentation accurately.
  • Maintain compliance with all environmental, safety, and site policies.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards within assigned work areas.
  • Frequently work from ladders, platforms, high places, and in confined or cramped spaces.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships and support overall site operations.
  • Perform other duties as required.
