About The Position

Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on systems including plumbing, electrical, heating, refrigeration, general A/C, carpentry, masonry, paint and glass.

Requirements

  • Work requires an educational background normally acquired through a high school education with course work in skilled crafts, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Received training on knowledge of general OSHA standards.
  • Received training on use of portable fire extinguisher.
  • Received training on hazardous waste awareness.
  • Received training on OSHA standards for lockout/tag out procedures.
  • Received training on fire safety.
  • Received training on fall protection.
  • Received training on blueprint reading.
  • Satisfied testing requirements of 'Wheels of Learning' Curriculum for GMM, Level 6.
  • All Local 465 positions require a valid North Carolina Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to move throughout residential buildings,
  • Moving heavy weighted materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs)
  • Self-movement/positioning oneself in order to inspect and conduct repairs of various areas.
  • Push and pull movements of equipment.
  • Potential transport and stock of assigned supplies and materials
  • Must be able to complete all positional requirements outlined above with or without reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of mechanical rooms.
  • Pick up, deliver, and track parts and supplies.
  • Assist mechanics and supervisors with assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Complete required paperwork, including work orders, inventory logs, and preventive maintenance forms.
  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Perform basic calculations, conversions, and measurements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on building systems and components.
  • Conduct basic maintenance and repairs across multiple trades, including:
  • Plumbing: Maintain and repair faucets, water coolers, urinals, commodes, automatic flush valves, plastic/copper piping, and fittings.
  • Electrical: Install, maintain, and repair wiring, receptacles, switches, fuses, circuit breakers, lighting fixtures, lamps (incandescent, fluorescent, HID), and ballasts; use electrical test equipment.
  • HVAC, Carpentry, Masonry, Painting, and Glass: Perform basic tasks and repairs as assigned.
  • Doors & Windows: Maintain and repair closures, locks, panic bars, hinges, skylights, exterior doors, weather-stripping, and hardware.
  • Surfaces & Structures: Apply paints, coatings, sealants, fillers, mortar, and grout; repair wood, concrete, interior trim, and reinforcement materials.
  • Apply appropriate lubricants to equipment and components.
  • Identify and correct common issues related to plumbing, electrical, painting, and structural systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards while performing maintenance tasks.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet departmental, Division and University goals and objectives, as assigned by their Supervisor, Director, or respective designees.
